About 20-23 Cummings
20-23 Cummings is a 1.25 million square foot, mixed-use development in the Assembly Square neighborhood of East Somerville, MA, being developed by Greystar. As required by a zoning ordinance, 25% of the overall site – which will also include two lab office buildings and an approximately 200-unit hotel – will be dedicated to public space. With the currently underutilized site hemmed in by highways and low-rise commercial storefronts, the project team knew engaging with direct neighbors for their feedback would pose a challenge.
Using coUrbanize, the 20-23 Cummings team:
- Reached employees of nearby office buildings and other stakeholders who don’t normally participate
- Validated retail leasing assumptions with hard data about community members’ wants
- Generated excitement for retail and de-risked the entitlements process
It was important to us to allow people who live, work, and visit the area to share their ideas. coUrbanize was key to allowing us to save time and reach a broader segment of the community by giving them a 24/7 platform to provide feedback.
