Overcoming NIMBY opposition to affordable & supportive housing

About 440 Arden Way

As part of the State of California’s plan to turn surplus state and city property into affordable housing, BRIDGE Housing was selected to develop a vacant lot in North Sacramento into 124 units of affordable housing for families earning between 30-60% AMI, including 25% permanent supportive housing.

The development will include a 4,200 square foot childcare center, local retail, and open courtyard space.

Using coUrbanize, the BRIDGE Housing team:

  • Activated a broader group of community members, including Latino and Black residents, and affordable housing supporter/
  • Debunked misinformation and demonstrated transparency in responding publicly to opponent/
  • Demonstrated broad community support to change the political calculus for City Councillors

The City Council vote turned into a bit of a firestorm, but one that we were ready to cope with because coUrbanize allowed us to muster public support.
